Diageo is the world’s leading premium drinks business with an outstanding collection of beverage alcohol brands across spirits, wine and beer categories. Diageo was formed in 1997, following the merger of GrandMet and Guinness. The word Diageo comes from the Latin for day (dia) and the Greek for world (geo). We take this to mean every day, everywhere, people celebrate with our brands. Headquartered in London, Diageo is a global company, trading in over 180 markets around the world. The company is listed on both the London Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange.
Established in 2002, Diageo Greater China Hub (including Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau) is based in Shanghai. Within a short period, it has already become a leading international spirits company in this market. Diageo’s brands in Greater China include Johnnie Walker, Windsor, Singleton, Baileys, Guinness, Smirnoff, J&B, Dimple, Captain Morgan, etc.
MHD China is a joint venture set up by the world’s leading luxury products group LVMH and Diageo for the marketing and distribution of Diageo’s brands including Johnnie Walker and Gordon’s in China. In November 2007 Diageo (China) Ltd was established to manage Diageo’s other brands in China.
Diageo acquired a minority stake of 43% of Sichuan Chengdu Quanxing Group Co. Ltd. (‘Quanxing’) to create a joint venture as the basis for future co-operation in the Chinese and international markets in 2007. Diageo acquired an additional 6% stake in Quanxing in 2008. The partnership manifests Diageo’s commitment to the Chinese market and its confidence in the prospects of both the Chinese White Spirits industry and China.
Diageo actively supports the government’s efforts in protecting intellectual property rights, rectifying market order, and safeguarding the company’s brands and consumer interests. These efforts, with the aim to create a healthy and sustainable environment for the development of the alcohol industry and the market, have won Diageo recognition and respect from both government agencies and consumers in the country.
