When we meet senior contacts in China for the first time, if they don’t have existing business links to the UK, even if their children are studying in the UK, they often don’t know about UK business strengths.
The UK is the 3rd largest Foreign Direct Investor overseas, has the 2nd largest received Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) stock in the world after the US – and remain the world’s 6th largest economy - not bad for a nation of 60 million!
The UK is the largest investor in China from China’s largest trade partner, the EU, and we have helped over 420 Chinese Investment projects set up in the UK including many of China’s leading companies. We want more Chinese partners to do global business with the UK, because we see the benefits for both China and the UK. And we believe we have both the investment environment and business opportunities to make this happen.
In this section of the website, we will tell you about seven key sectors of UK corporate strength, Advanced Engineering, Construction, Creative Industries, Energy, Financial Services, Information Communications Technology, Life Sciences, and Low Carbon. We will tell you why Chinese companies chose UK as their overseas investment destination, working with UKTI. We will also tell you about business opportunities for Chinese companies at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
We will be expanding this section to include information on leading UK companies active in China, Chinese companies active in the UK, and our plans for the Expo period in these priority sectors. Over the coming months we will also be adding multimedia content, including interviews with UK industry and academic leaders, and interviews with their management based in China, so please do come back and revisit often!
UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) is the government organisation that helps UK-based companies succeed in the global economy and assists overseas companies to bring their high quality investment to the UK.
UKTI has teams in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chongqing embedded in the British Embassy and Consulates-General. We work with our partner, the China-Britain Business Council (CBBC), which delivers many of our services for UK companies in China and has 11 offices in China. Together we have nearly 100 staff in Mainland China to support UK business and potential Chinese investors.
